Lizzy Bringhurst has been captivating the Collective for years now with her fun and witty poetry. She works at the The Winslow / Centre Ave retirement homes in Fort Collins, and she got us a gig to present poetry to the elders for National Poetry Month. Her collaborative poetry book on “deconstructing from religion” was just reviewed in the GuloGulo Manuscript Bookclub.
GuloGulo: How did you get into writing?
Lizzy: I’ve done a lot of journaling — processing my purpose in life.
GuloGulo: What type of themes do you write about?
Lizzy: I like to look for things people don’t normally pay attention to.
GuloGulo: What got you into writing poetry?
Lizzy: With poetry I get to present a playfulness that’s hard to get with prose.
GuloGulo: What’s the best writing advice you’ve been given?
Lizzy: Stay consistent and keep writing. And try your best to be poetic.
GuloGulo: Do you believe in the super-natural?
Lizzy: I’m not agnostic. I’m not going to deny things I cannot explain.
