Annual Broadside Competition

Celebrating the intersection of poetry and visual art and design
A broadside is a single-sheet publication that serves as a collaborative canvas, transforming a poem into a tactile, visual work of art intended for public display. By pairing high-impact poetry with intentional typography and iconography, the broadside emphasizes the “shape” of language alongside a designer’s aesthetic interpretation. This symbiotic relationship creates a unique, limited-edition piece that bridges the gap between the spoken word and the visual world.
Competition and Collaboration
Our annual broadside competition is an opportunity for a GuloGulo poet to collaborate with an local artist to create a broadside poem for print. Interested poets are expected to collaborate with the artist and printer to help elevate their poem on a single-sided poster design.
The submission window is currently closed. Visit this page again (or follow us on Instagram) for updates about the 2026 competition.
Previous editions of broadsides are available for purchase through GuloGulo for a suggested donation of $35.
